The London Measure of Unplanned Pregnancy (LMUP)

The LMUP in Brazil
Ana Luiza Vilela Borges, RN, MPH, PhD and colleagues, from the University of Sao Paulo School of Nursing, in Brazil, led the translation and validation of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the LMUP in Sao Paulo city, Brazil. The validation was conducted in three settings from 2012 to 2013: 1) at a public maternity hospital, with 76 adolescent pregnant women attending prenatal care or hospitalized the day after giving birth; 2) at 12 public primary health care services, with 513 pregnant women attending prenatal care, vaccination, or educational group meetings; and 3) at another public maternity hospital, with 170 women hospitalized for incomplete abortion. The Brazilian Portuguese LMUP version was adapted for interviewer-administration rather than self-completion. The Brazilian Portuguese LMUP was found to be a valid and reliable measure of pregnancy intention.
